The Process

old-camera.jpg

As a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists (APG), I am committed to professionalism and a high ethical standard by abiding by the APG Code of Ethics and the Board for Certification of Genealogists’ Code of Ethics and Conduct. All information concerning living persons and material that is not public record will be treated with discretion.

The process begins after you contact me to retain my services. We will discuss your research goals and what you would like to accomplish. This can be done by telephone, video chat, or in person. We will agree upon the specifics of your goal, the rate, and discuss the information you already possess. It is important that you share with me the information you already know so research duplication may be avoided. My rates will depend upon the scope of the work and generally include travel within a 50-mile radius. Out-of-pocket expenses are in addition to the hourly research rate and include repository fees, parking fees, copy charges, postage fees, etc. Large research projects (10 hours or more) will require a retainer fee. Unused portions of the retainer fee are returned to you at the conclusion of the project. Research begins when I receive your signed agreement and retainer.

While I will make every effort to accomplish the goals we have agree upon, I cannot guarantee that information can be found or that research will produce the results that you desire . Sometimes additional time is needed to prove facts or relationships. Research fees still apply in cases of non discovery. Should any of these situations occur, I will stop research and contact you for further direction. At the conclusion of the research, you will receive a detailed report, recommendations for further research, an itemized list of out-of-pocket expenses, and an invoice.
